THE BEGINNING
In 1995, nine individuals, having a
common interest in antique tractors
and their preservation, met and
formed the Antique Tractor Club of
Trumbull County. Since then our
membership has grown to over 170
members with an even greater
number of antique tractors.
IT'S ABOUT HAVING FUN
Our members are as diverse as the
tractors they own. From all different
backgrounds to those who don't
even own a tractor, our family
oriented club is open to all whose
common interest is antique tractors.

The Year of the Deere
We had a fun and exciting day at the TSC show this year. Thanks to Jack
Crawford and Bill Stavana for organizing it. Tractor Supply Company also
deserves thanks for helping us have a great show.
The spaghetti dinner fund raiser was a great success. We hope to have a couple
additional dates set later this year. I want to say ‘Thank you’ to all who helped out
so much.
We have scheduled 2 Plow Days at the new property to help work the ground.
They are planned for Saturday May 30th and Sunday June 7th starting at 9 AM.
Work days at the new property are generally Saturdays and Mondays, providing
good weather, for all those who want to help. We still need to clear, trim, cut, and
move brush and level the ground.
Don’t forget in June we are planning a “Summer Tractor Ride”. Scheduled for
June 6th with June 13th as the rain date. The staging area is set at King Bros. on
Rt. 88 in Bristol. Plan to start at 1:00 pm for about a 3 hour ride (18 miles). We are
asking a $10.00 fee to cover the expenses and food for a cookout after the ride at
King Bros. Contact Ray Carr at 330-847-0092 for more information. Remember,
you must be a member to participate.
Clark Thompson has spruced up the John Deere GT 275 garden tractor for our
raffle this year. He did a great job! We have already begun selling tickets. Don’t
forget to purchase yours and take some to sell to others.
There is a property Planning Meeting on June 8th at 7 PM at the new property.
We’re about ready to start construction on our first building. The Yeager’s will be
bringing their saw mill equipment to cut up some of our own trees for use in the
project.
See you at the meeting.
Keep those tractors running.

Plow Day
by Reva Montgomery
The Antique Tractor Club of Trumbull County had a Plow Day recently at Duane
and Donna Trickers' Farm in Kinsman, OH. Observers enjoyed watching as old
tractors and teams of draft horses plowed the earth. The weather was wonderful
and people had a beautiful view that stretched for several miles. Tractor brands
involved were Allis Chalmers, Farmall, Ford, International, John Deere and
Oliver. The oldest tractor was a 1937 John Deere B, owned and operated by Matt
Barker of Kinsman. Paul Schrum, of Berlin Center, OH plowed with a 1953 John
Deere 40 Crawler. He used a John Deere trailer two bottom twelve inch plow.
There were two younger drivers. Miranda Sutliff, age 12, plowed with her
grandfathers 1949 Allis Chalmers WD. It pulled a two bottom Ferguson plow. Her
grandfather is club member Pat Sutliff from Farmdale, OH. Tim Eckenrode, age
11, plowed with his grandfathers 1949 John Deere MT. His grandfather is Jack
Switzer of Cortland, OH. Some members were old hands at plowing while others
were plowing for the first time. They also tried out each other’s tractors and
plows to see the differences in the handling of the equipment.
Along with the tractors, were three teams of Belgium draft horses. Horses Steve
and Jeff, are owned by Mike and Robin Shaw of Canton. Clark and Jay are owned
by Rick and Pat Hillegas from Charlestown. Paul and Deanne Hunt, from North
Jackson, own Doc and Willie. Doc is thirteen years old and has been a part of the
Hunt family since he was a colt. Paul also helped his niece, eight year old
Kiersten Tricker, plow with Doc and Willie. She did a great job with the big
animals. These three are part of the Ohio Valley Draft Horse Association and
were a great addition to the day.

Some Information on the Gas Tractor
The early development of the Gas Tractor followed a pattern similar to that of the
steam traction engine the stationary engine was mounted on skids or wheels to
make it portable and then a drive was devised to make it self-propelled. The trend
continued for many years but gradually with the help of Henry Fords’ Fordson
tractor the tractor absorbed certain automotive principles features like
automobile type steering and transmission, high speed engine, and a much
lighter and more efficient tractor unit. Indeed, the trend went further and added
such items as belt pulley for belt work, drawbar for pulling machines, power take-
off (PTO) for driving mounted or pulled machines and finally hydraulic controls for
controlling many drawn and pulled machines furnishing four different methods of
applying power.
